ABOUT BMT

Our purpose

We exist to navigate the most important and impactful engineering challenges of our time. We create environments where people with outstanding technical knowledge deliver meaningful, practical solutions. We are driven by a commitment to a safer, more efficient, effective and sustainable future.

More about us

With around 1,500 professionals located in 47 offices in the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe, we draw upon a wide range of experience and expertise to provide high-quality, high-value products and services.

From initial concept through to design, construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning, we support customers at every stage of the project lifecycle.  Our customers across the world buy outcomes: cost-effective solutions to business problems that require technical excellence, independent thinking, and innovation.

Our Energy and Infrastructure Business

Innovative technology, offshore opportunities, and unconventional hydrocarbons are causing fundamental shifts in the global energy system.  As energy needs rise globally, we work with major energy companies, natural resource developers, financial institutions, governments, and agencies to find sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

  • Advice on complex offshore or coastal transactions, including regulatory compliance
  • Commissioning, maintenance or decommissioning of energy projects
  • Protection and monitoring of coastal and offshore assets

We have been involved with the offshore renewables sector from the outset, with our involvement reaching back to early work on wind and wave energy devices in the 1980s. Involvement has included elements so diverse as weather forecasting and prediction of scrub to maintenance program creation and from vessel design to accident investigation.

We embrace the innovation and regulation that form the primary business drivers in the energy and natural resources sector.

As a leader in renewable energy, we are thrilled to be supporting the CRC Program, a proven model of industry and research cooperation that aims to boost the current value of the Australian aquaculture industry. We will drive the project outcomes of the CRC which will directly improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of national aquaculture industries.

Aquaculture

In aquaculture we provide our customers with end-to-end, integrated solutions – from modelling environmental carrying capacity through to offering practical management tools.  Whether mapping the sea floor or estimating the benthic footprint and nitrogen carrying capacity of the local marine environment, we have evolved services that are not only highly innovative: they are immediately practical and relevant.

We have developed an environmental modelling package encompassing 3D-hydrodynamic, water quality, particle transport and sediment biogeochemical models (DEEP). When coupled with relevant site-specific information, DEEP allows us to predict the impact of sea-cage operations, sea-floor recovery timelines and optimise water quality conditions for enhanced production.

Our approach to aquaculture development encompasses three stages: mapping, modelling and management.

Mapping: Site selection is critical to sustainable aquaculture development. We use custom spatial modelling tools and GIS mapping technologies to determine the suitability, depth and habitat complexity of potential sites.

Modelling: We have invested heavily in the development of integrated modelling products for the aquaculture industry.  DEEP provides capacity to estimate the environmental footprint of farms based on local hydrodynamics, feed inputs, and relevant environmental cause-effect pathways.

Management: DEEP is assisting a range of government and industry-based clients in Australia, United State, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates with decisions regarding placement of infrastructure and the management of proposed operations.
