ABOUT VISUAL KNOWLEDGE

Dr Stacey McCormack is a scientific graphic designer and communicator whose work focuses on utilising a visual approach to knowledge creation and dissemination.

After earning a PhD in Quantitative Antarctic Science through the University of Tasmania, she founded the international scientific graphic design company Visual Knowledge Pty Ltd (www.visualknowledge.design) to assist researchers and organisations translate their knowledge into visually appealing and understandable formats. With the primary aim of making knowledge accessible, Stacey is passionate about equipping others with the skills to improve their knowledge dissemination with her training focussed on how to use visuals effectively to communicate to various audiences.

This session will cover the uses of graphic design in knowledge communication including the process of visual thinking, symbolism, the dos and don’ts of visualisation and some useful resources. Participants will be given time to translate their own knowledge into a graphical summary using their method of choice.

Participants to bring: pen, paper, laptop, laptop charger, computer mouse. Note that the activities can be completed without a laptop if needed.
