23rd – 27th January 2023
Albany, Western Australia

The Inaugural Blue Economy CRC PhD Summer School was held in Albany, Western Australia in the week of 23rd to 27th January 2023.

Our current PhD students were invited to attend a week-long Summer School this January along with academics and fellow students with opportunities to present their work, learn from keynote lectures, participate in workshop/group activities and expand their professional networks.

In addition to traditional learning in a classroom environment, each day had an interactive outdoors component with fieldwork and site visits.

Albany is a coastal regional town in SW Western Australia, about 500km from Perth. It is located in a stunning natural environment – a perfect place for our students to immerse themselves into all things ocean. The summer school was organised by UWA’s Marine Energy Research Australia, Oceans Graduate School, and Oceans Institute, with the financial support of the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre and the Great Southern Development Commission.

“The summer school is a unique opportunity for our PhD Scholars and young engineers and scientists from our industry partner organisations to immerse themselves in blue economy themes.”
