Thesis Topic
Spatial MCDM tool for offshore wind and solar energy systems
PhD Start Date
October 9, 2023
PhD Project Objectives
The objectives of this study are: (1) To determine the energy mix scenario for offshore wind farm and solar power plants considering the energy demand in Australia; (2) To develop a tool to autonomously identify optimal site locations for offshore wind and solar plants considering both environmental and social constraints/impacts as well as energy demand; and (3) To develop an interactive spatial heat map of potential optimal locations. The Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach will be applied to consider economic, technical, social, and environmental aspects.

Biography
I am Fida Ali from Pakistan. I am currently pursuing my PhD degree from Griffith University Gold Coast. I earned my bachelor’s degree in electrical Power Engineering from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Pakistan and my master's degree in Sustainable Energy Management from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. My master's research was focused on the site selection of suitable small hydropower sites in the Songkla Lake basin area in South Thailand. I developed a spatial decision support technique to map suitable hydropower sites considering techno-economic and environmental criteria. I am excited to use my knowledge of spatial MCDM techniques in this new project. I like to cook and enjoy nature through photography in my spare time.
