PROJECT IN BRIEF

This project aims to determine opportunities and priorities for seaweed aquaculture projects within the BE CRC.

It has two main components:

  1. engagement with stakeholders (industry, research, NGOs) to determine their need, opportunities and the potential for seaweed aquaculture, including species to cultivate and,
  2. to review and identify methods for a) best hatchery conditions and cultivation techniques for priority seaweed (e.g., bull kelp Durvillaea) and, b) likely effects of seaweeds, such as Durvillaea, on hydrodynamics around offshore/high energy structures.

This scoping study will inform a research plan for the commercial culture of seaweed within the BE CRC.
