PROJECT IN BRIEF
As aquaculture continues to expand and move offshore, interactions between aquaculture and marine wildlife will continue to increase. New methods, therefore, are needed to manage interactions between aquaculture and problematic marine species.
Objectives
- Review ways in which jellyfish, which cost industry $100s of millions globally, impact finfish aquaculture, including existing and novel methods for jellyfish mitigation and assessing how jellyfish will impact aquaculture as it expands offshore
- Review the potential to develop an early warning system for jellyfish using image-recognition technology
- Assess the feasibility of using image recognition to address other operational issues, including monitoring other problematic wildlife, such as seals and invertebrate biofouling communities
