PROJECT IN BRIEF

The TASDEMO project involves deploying SATH technology for a floating offshore wind turbine in Australian waters. This project will evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of deploying this technology in Australia, paving the way for future large-scale projects.

The deployment of a floating wind turbine (FOWT) in Australia could represent the first of its kind in the country and unlock significant potential for future development.

The TASDEMO project aims to:

  • Identify suitable offshore sites for the SATH floating wind turbine prototype, including power production estimates and analysis for electricity use.
  • Evaluate the conditions for deploying a SATH FOWT in Australian waters. This includes analyzing transport solutions, transoceanic barge shipping, installation, commissioning, operation, decommissioning, technical constraints, and budget breakdown.
  • Prepare conceptual operations and maintenance (O&M) plans.
  • Evaluate the permitting and regulatory framework for deploying a floating wind turbine demonstrator.
  • Investigate funding opportunities and stakeholder management.

The floating platform will also function as an Environmental Station. Advanced monitoring systems will be installed to study the existing biodiversity and its interaction with the floating infrastructure, with a particular focus on the potential impacts on local fauna like birds and marine mammals.

The TASDEMO project will demonstrate the entire process of developing a Floating Offshore Wind project in Australia, encompassing site development, deployment, operation, and decommissioning. This will significantly reduce risks for deploying future floating wind turbines exceeding 15MW.

Co-funded by the Fondo para la Internacionalización de la Empresa (FIEM) – Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business.
