Australian Ocean Energy Market Summit

Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 & 11 May 2022
Wrest Point, Hobart

Presented by:

THE SUMMIT

The Australian Ocean Energy Group’s Market Summit is its signature event, supporting our primary aim to increase market adoption of renewable ocean energy in Australia.

We’re about creating supply and demand by connecting end users (‘markets’) with ocean energy system suppliers and renewable energy project specialists to advance commercialisation of Australia’s ocean energy sector.

The 2022 Market Summit is built around the findings of AOEG’s current Australian Ocean Energy Market Investigation Project (Phase 1), which will help build understanding about key markets for ocean energy.

The Market Summit is designed to create meaningful, information-based connections between Australian market representatives and industry leaders, such as project developers, technology providers, supply chain, investors, funders, researchers, stakeholders, policy makers and communities.

Designed as an interactive event, the Summit is open to anyone with an interest in the ‘blue economy’ – the range of economic uses of ocean and coastal resources – exploring the technology, process and economics of capturing energy from waves and tides, with particular focus on how to deliver that energy to an end user in a commercially successful project.

AOEG wishes to thank the Blue Economy CRC as its major sponsor for this event as well as Aquatera, AOEG’s program partner.

THE PROGRAM

The program will use the outcomes of existing programs and knowledge, input from interactive discussions and expert input to help achieve the following:

  • Identify the priority markets for wave and tidal technologies and integrated ocean energy systems in Australia.
  • Examine key challenges these priority markets face in relation to energy transition and decarbonisation.
  • Explain how ocean energy projects in priority markets are designed and implemented, to better understand the opportunities and overcome challenges identified.
  • Demonstrate how AOEG’s emerging Ocean Energy Marketplace can help inform stakeholders, mitigate investment risk and facilitate commercial ocean energy projects.
  • Identify key research to support the market’s adoption of ocean energy and the sustainable development of Australia’s ocean energy industry.
  • Highlight global and Australian advancements in the ocean energy sector.

DRAFT AGENDA

The Summit will be implemented as both an in-person and online event. A completed program agenda, developed and facilitated by Aquatera, will be made available closer to the event.

Day 1: Tuesday 10 May 2022

8.30am: Registration

9.00am: The Summit will be implemented as both an in-person and online event. A completed program agenda, developed and facilitated by Aquatera, will be made available closer to the event.

9.30am – 5.30pm: Summit Kickoff (facilitated by Aquatera)

Objective: Increase understanding of what ‘project development’ means in the ocean energy sector, with particular focus on priority markets.

  • Welcome & program overview
  • AOEG Ocean Energy Market Investigation – key findings (highlights)
  • Introduction to ocean energy project development
  • Project development in priority markets – interactive session to discuss and analyse technical, regulatory, finance and stakeholder engagement factors to consider during the development of commercial projects in priority markets.

5.30pm – 7.30pm: Social Event

Day 2: Wednesday 11 May 2022

8.30am: Registration

9.00 – 4pm: Summit Summit (facilitated by Aquatera and includes group lunch)

Objective: Demonstrate how AOEG’s emerging Ocean Energy Marketplace is being designed to facilitate connections between market representatives and industry.

  • Introduction to the AOEG Ocean Energy Marketplace.
  • Interactive session building on the work done on Day 1 to workshop how the Marketplace could be used by market representatives, project developers and suppliers to reduce risks and deliver successful commercial ocean energy projects.
  • Interactive session using ‘market hubs’ to facilitate knowledge transfer about project development in ocean energy.
