Please register your Expression of Interest for the newly updated tours below to Tasmania’s Northwestern Aquaculture Operations and the Hydrogen Production and Research Facility.
Thursday 29th May, 9am – 5pm (Departing Devonport)
Join us for a hands-on tour of Tasmania’s northwestern aquaculture operations, building directly on concepts explored in the previous day’s Open Ocean Aquaculture Workshop session.
The tour includes a boat trip to the Bass Strait Research Trial Site during its commissioning phase, located 12 kilometres north of Burnie. Here, you’ll observe the site and hear firsthand from the trial site operations team on how they will apply the offshore farming methods discussed yesterday in actual open-water conditions.
The tour also includes BioMar’s Wesley Vale Feed Factory, where you’ll meet David Whyte and his team as they take you through their sustainability journey and their specialised feed formulations engineered specifically for fish raised in high-energy offshore environments around Australia and New Zealand.
You will also meet the team at Petuna’s Rowella salmon farm in the Tamar River estuary, Tasmania’s northernmost commercial salmon operation. This stop offers a practical comparison between traditional near-shore and emerging offshore farming approaches, complete with insights and lived experience.
