Today, Dr Gunilla Burrowes one of the Company’s non-executive directors, was named a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).

Dr Burrowes is widely recognised for her significant achievements in three parallel careers. An electrical engineer, she is an expert in communications between swarming autonomous underwater vehicles, industry innovation and gender equity.  She has been a driving force for technology start-ups in the Newcastle, NSW, region. As a technology entrepreneur she was the Inaugural Chair of the first incubator and co-working space for CleanTech and SmartCity start-ups in Australia and she coaches and mentors start-up founders.

Throughout Gunilla’s career she has been a champion for women in engineering, and as a gender consultant she works to improve gender diversity and equity in STEM organisations.

Academy President, Professor Hugh Bradlow, welcomed Gunilla as a new Fellow, and added that “We bring together Australia’s leading experts in applied science, technology and engineering to provide impartial, practical and evidence-based advice to enable Australia to maintain its position as a leading technology economy.”

The Board of Blue Economy congratulates Gunilla on this important career milestone.
