The Blue Economy CRC and IMAS have completed the research project on developing technologies for offshore mariculture of giant kelp in the Derwent.
The research team successfully harvested Macrocystis from the Tinderbox kelp lease along with developing routine optimised hatchery and grow-out methods for future projects or contexts such as in deeper, offshore environments.
We invite the local community to attend a thank you event at Blackmans Bay Community Hall and hear from the research project lead, view imagery from the harvesting and ask any questions to the team.
5pm: Arrival refreshments served.
5:30pm: Hear from Research Lead, Associate Professor Jeff Wright, University of Tasmania and the Blue Economy CRC team and view images from the research trial and harvesting.
6pm: Open questions.
6:30pm: Event conclusion.
