Dr. Kosala GunawardaneThe Blue Economy CRC is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Kosala Gunawardane as the Deputy Program Leader of the Offshore Renewable Energy Systems Program.

Dr. Kosala Gunawardane is currently a Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand.

She received the PhD degree in Power Electronic Engineering from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, in 2014. She is an IEEE senior member and the Vice Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering NZ north chapter.

“It is a great honour and pleasure for me to be involved as the RP3 Deputy Leader of the Offshore Renewable Energy Systems Program. After the scoping study phase, this is an exciting time for BE CRC research programs to explore new research directions.” says Dr. Gunawardane.

Her research interests include renewable energy applications, DC-microgrids, supercapacitor applications, low-dropout regulators and analog circuit design.

Her research work has direct involvement in hands-on electronic circuit building and experimental verification where there is very limited representation of female researchers.

She was a finalist in the 2018 NZ Women of Influence in Science and Innovation category.
