Dear all,

Embarking on this PhD journey was like setting sail on a vast and unpredictable ocean. There were moments of calm and clarity, where the horizon seemed within reach, and times of turbulent storms that tested my determination. Along the way, I encountered numerous lighthouses, whose guidance helped me navigate the rough waters, and steadfast ships that journeyed alongside me, offering support and unity. The successful completion of my PhD thesis!

Yesterday was the climax of that journey, a reflection of the collective efforts and unwavering support of those who believed in this endeavour. I am deeply grateful for the many navigators who have helped chart the course to this achievement.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Irene Penesis and the entire Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre team, as well as Brad Evans and Peter Heard from Tassal Group, for their generous financial support and unwavering collaboration, which have been pivotal to the success of this PhD project. The resources, expertise, and guidance provided by BE CRC have significantly enriched my research experience. I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to participate in their insightful workshops and summer school, which not only broadened my knowledge but also allowed me to connect with exceptional professionals and researchers from around the world. These experiences have greatly deepened my understanding of the blue economy and the innovative projects being developed globally. BE CRC’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge research and collaboration has been truly inspiring, and I feel privileged to have been part of this extraordinary community. 😊

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Michael Heitzmann for his enduring belief in me, even before my PhD journey commenced. His expertise and continual encouragement have served as guiding lights throughout this process. I am thankful for his unwavering support during challenging moments, both professionally and personally. His mentorship has left an indelible mark, and I hold him in high regard as a role model for excellence and dedication.

I am profoundly thankful to Prof. Darren Martin for his invaluable support and guidance throughout this journey. His constructive feedback, combined with constant motivation, has been crucial in nurturing the growth and development of this research. I’m extremely grateful to Asst. Prof. Byron Villacorta for his comprehensive review and valuable feedback, which have significantly contributed to the refinement and improvement of this work. I am incredibly fortunate to have such exceptional supervisors who have been the cornerstone of my professional and academic development.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the entire UQ Composites Group, Martin Research Group, and CBB Group for their immense support throughout this journey. Their collective knowledge, expertise, and encouragement have been invaluable in shaping both my research and personal growth. The collaborative environment fostered by these groups has played a significant role in enhancing my academic experience, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities to work alongside such talented and dedicated individuals.

With many thanks to everyone involved, I will be forever grateful for your support in this beautiful journey.
