Lukas is a computer scientist whose field of expertise is developing machine-learning methods for the life sciences. Lukas received his PhD from Griffith University in 2015 for his work on developing machine-learning methods for molecular biology. He continued his training as a postdoctoral fellow at ETH Zurich, Switzerland with a focus on machine learning for precision medicine. In 2018, Lukas joined CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine, Austria to develop deep-learning approaches for molecular biology, for which he received European Commission’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship. In November 2022, Lukas moved (back) to Griffith University to join a Blue Economy CRC project to develop deep-learning approaches for marine wildlife monitoring.
