Matt Flood is one of the directors in the Sustainable Ocean Plan Taskforce in the Department of Climate Change, Energy the Environment and Water, with over 20 years’ experience in fisheries and aquaculture.

He completed a PhD at the University of Tasmania, and a postdoctoral research fellowship in aquaculture in Japan. He has worked in the Australian Government as a fisheries scientist, in fisheries policy, as a political advisor, and as a regulator.

In his current role he and his team are working on the development of Australia’s Sustainable Ocean Plan, a commitment made by our Prime Minister as part of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy. His recent work has included engagement with state and territory governments, ocean industries, scientists, and environmental non-government organisations; with the aim of understanding what Australia can do to improve ocean management at a national level.
