The Blue Economy CRC welcomes the Tasmanian Government’s release of the Hydrogen Industry Activation Study.

The Study highlights exciting opportunities for the use of renewable hydrogen in Tasmania’s transport and maritime sectors and compliments research activities already underway in the Blue Economy CRC.

The Blue Economy CRC is currently developing Tasmania’s first fully operational commercial scale hydrogen electrolyser to support the decarbonisation of offshore industries including shipping and aquaculture.  This infrastructure includes a new generation 700kW electrolyser that will come online in Tasmania in the first half of 2022.

This hydrogen infrastructure will initially start onshore and will be configured to support early-stage transport and maritime development activities, consistent with the Industry Activation Study.

The long-term aim is to develop this into an offshore renewable energy system, encompassing offshore renewable energy conversion technologies coupled to a hydrogen microgrid to provide high-reliability clean energy for our maritime industries of the future.
