PROJECT IN BRIEF

Success of the offshore/high energy aquaculture industry will depend upon availability and cost-effectiveness of appropriate sustainable energy technologies to meet their energy needs. However, the energy resource requirements of the emerging aquaculture systems are not yet well understood, and thus neither are the costs and benefits of various energy supply options for such systems.

This project aims to address these issues, by assessing offshore/high energy aquaculture systems energy resource requirements and through techno-economic energy systems analysis. The research will support several aspects of RP3, bringing together CRC partners to provide initial estimates of offshore/high energy aquaculture energy-intensive resource demands. Outputs will include datasets defining the energy (and other key energy-intensive resource) demand profiles for major elements of typical future offshore aquaculture facilities and multi-use platforms, and recommendations in a final report.
